学生エンリッチメント
Academics at Rosa Parks JBBP are enriched by a variety of programs. Specialists, parent volunteers, community members and Sensei all contribute to the supplemental courses and activities that our students enjoy.
Field Trips
Throughout the year, JBBP students are able to take a variety of field trips to explore the many learning opportunities that exist beyond the classroom. Among the trips students take are the Japanese Tea Garden, California Academy of Sciences, SF Ballet, SF Symphony, Slide Ranch, and the SF Botanical Gardens, and many more. The PTCC supports these programs financially, and many parent volunteers make these trips safe and enjoyable for students.
Art Classes
Visual arts classes are provided at least once a week to all grades by our Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) specialist. The children often create arts and crafts that relate to a Japanese cultural event that JBBP is celebrating. While there are many lovely small projects that can be displayed at home, there are also coordinated projects to create beautiful artwork for our annual auction.
Library
The library at Rosa Parks is staffed 5 days a week by our amazing librarian, Ms. Windell. Each grade level has library time at least once a week. The library features a great collection of Japanese books for those in the JBBP program. Check out this amazing resource at the website for the school library.
Garden Program
Rosa Parks has two school gardens and a dedicated Garden Coordinator, Ms. Oliv. The Upper Garden features our recently completed chicken coop in addition to some edible plants as well as some flowers. There are 5 sweet chickens that live on-site in their new home. The kids love to feed, carry, and tend to the chickens on their garden days.
The Lower Garden is a mix of flowers and edible crops that the children love to check on as they pass through each day. Some kids can hardly wait until they’re able to pick the greens that they’ve planted. The Lower Garden serves as a place of gathering for many events, and the care that’s put into the garden makes it a special spot on campus.
Physical Education
Twice a week, the kids have class with our two PE teachers. They use this time to learn healthy ways to move their body, have fun competitions, and learn important motor skills.
Dance
Kindergarten and first grade classes have Dance class regularly, with instruction by Nagata Dance. There are a few performances throughout the year to showcase their work. In second grade, the children continue their Dance courses in a program run by the SF Ballet.
Music
Music instruction is provided at each grade level by our music teacher. Kindergarten through third grades have choral music class that supports the many songs that are woven into daily happenings in the classroom. Fourth and fifth grade classes continue their music education with instrumental music classes.
